Introducing Dr. Jakub Köcher-Vodnárek: Leading Specialist in Small Animal Surgery
We are proud to welcome Dr. Jakub Köcher-Vodnárek, ECVS, to the Advanced Vetcare London team. As a European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery, Jakub brings exceptional expertise in orthopaedic, soft tissue, and neurosurgical procedures - strengthening our mission to deliver world-class care to pets across South London.
An International Career Built on Surgical Excellence
Originally from the Czech Republic, Jakub’s veterinary journey began at the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno, where he achieved two degrees and set the foundation for a career defined by dedication and clinical precision.
Following his graduation, he gained a breadth of experience working in general and emergency practice across the UK and Germany. These early roles shaped his strong clinical instincts and his passion for complex surgical cases.
Training at Europe’s Leading Referral Hospitals
Jakub went on to complete competitive rotating and surgical internships at some of the most respected veterinary centres in Europe, including:
- VRCC Veterinary Referrals in Basildon
- Fitzpatrick Referrals in Surrey
His specialist training continued in 2020 when he was accepted onto a prestigious ECVS Residency in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna.
After years of intensive clinical work spanning orthopaedics, neurosurgery, and advanced soft tissue procedures, Jakub successfully passed his board examinations and became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS), a qualification held by only a small number of elite surgeons worldwide.

Jakub’s clinical interests include:

- Reconstructive and plastic surgery

- Complex soft tissue and neurological procedures
He has published research in leading journals such as Veterinary Record and Veterinary Surgery, contributing to ongoing advancements within the profession. Jakub is also committed to continuous development, pursuing advanced training courses across Europe and the USA to ensure his patients benefit from the latest surgical innovations.

Known for his calm, meticulous approach, Jakub strives to provide every patient with the highest standard of surgical care, combining precision, compassion, and evidence-based decision making. Outside of work, Jakub enjoys travelling, discovering new cultures, and spending time outdoors, a balance that fuels his curiosity and dedication both in and out of the clinic.
